A Jeannie Pick:
Nobody's Victim
"I had the pleasure of hearing the author speak about this book after its release, and from the stories she told the audience about regarding internet stalking and harassment, I felt compelled to see what I could learn about why our society falls short on protecting people from the internet, and how this author is taking action in response."

An Andrea Pick: Send More Idiots
"Send More Idiots is a novel about Narcotraficantes. It is filled with all of the ruthless savagery of a Netflix portrayal of the American-Mexican drug trade but Perez-Giese's version is so much more detailed, as he has done an exquisite job on character development. The author, better known as TPG, was a personal friend of mine. I highly recommend this book!"

A Kate Pick: In The Dream House
"I stole (borrowed?) this from Jeannie's classroom library after hearing the author interviewed on the radio. The characters on both sides of the violent relationship in this memoir are surprisingly, disturbingly relatable. The book is both engrossing and ambitious: it sets out to write queerness into the record on domestic violence by 'imagining what cannot be verified.'" |
Emily's Text: The Handmaid's Tale
"I read the Handmaid's Tale by Margret Atwood this summer after I watched the Hulu show based on the book. I found the story to be very timely based on the politics of today, and found parallels between the story and what I was reading in the News Paper every day. I suggest this book if you like strong female characters, dystopian stories, or politics." |

Heather's Text: Aristotle an Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe
"This novel blew me away. It brings the reader through the journey of two teenage Mexican-American boys in the late 80's. They discover friendship, explore their sexuality and how that fits into their racial and ethnic identities, cultures, and family dynamics. It is so beautifully written and the most painful moments are also the most illuminating. This book will always be one of my favorites."
